A Message to the

Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada

from the ATHENA Foundation

ATHENA Founder - Martha Mertz

On behalf of the ATHENA Foundation Board of Directors, staff, and supporters from across the United States, Canada and beyond, our warmest congratulations to the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada upon the presentation of their first annual ATHENA Award. The women and men who plan, support, and execute your event are a valued part of the ATHENA Family. June Beland, the ATHENA committee and the staff of the Chamber are to be commended for their work in support of the ATHENA Award Program, and for their dedication to the values espoused by the ATHENA Foundation. Creating leadership opportunities for women is no small feat, and we thank you for your efforts.

Thanks are due to Silver Sponsors: Marnell Corrao Associates, Angela G. Hansell-Financial Education Institute of Nevada, Inc., and American Family Insurance; Table Sponsors: Mandalay Resort Group, SouthwestUSA Bank , and Wells Fargo Bank. Your involvement tells the community that you value the achievements and contributions of the ATHENA Award recipients, and that you provide a trustworthy environment in which women and men are invited to do business.

Congratulations to each of this evenings' nominees for the ATHENA Award. As we emphasize through our use of the term "recipient" there are no losers here tonight. You are all winners, and by virtue of your character and accomplishments, so is your community.

The ATHENA Award is unique among the numerous awards for excellence and or community service. The ATHENA award recognizes and individual who has achieved excellence in her or his chosen profession, who has given back to the community in a meaningful way, and who has assisted women in realizing their full potential. In a quote attributed to Plato, "What is honored in a country will be cultivated there." We believe that recognizing the women and men who meet the criteria for the ATHENA Award will inspire others to achieve excellence.

With growing numbers of women business owners and women in leadership, the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada is helping to create leadership opportunities for women. Congratulations, and welcome aboard.

Sincerely,

Martha Mertz
Founder, ATHENA Foundation
